Architecture Minnesota’s Videotect competition is seeking original digital videos that show how design can enhance social interaction in a restaurant, bar, or coffee shop. Tell us what you love about the design of your favorite hangout—or how you and your architect would design one if you were opening your own place. Entries will be judged on their ability to entertain viewers and get them thinking about the role architecture plays in successful social spaces. 1. ELIGIBILITY This contest is open to people of all ages and backgrounds, except employees and their immediate family members of Architecture Minnesota, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Minnesota (“AIA Minnesota”), and Tilka Design. 2. HOW TO ENTER To enter this competition, visit the Videotect registration page and either (i) fill out the online registration form or (ii) download a registration form, fill it out, and mail or fax it with the applicable registration fee to Architecture Minnesota in accordance with the instructions on the registration web page. Entrants may work individually or in teams of any size, but each entrant is limited to two submissions. All entries become the property of Architecture Minnesota and AIA Minnesota. Entries and submissions must be made so that they are received by Architecture Minnesota between 5 p.m. CST on October 18, 2013, and 5 p.m. CST on February 3, 2014. Entrants who register by December 2, 2013, may take advantage of the lower $25 registration fee. After December 2, 2013, the entry fee is $40. The fee is waived for students 18 years of age and younger at the time of submission. All eligible entrants who complete the entry requirements and pay a registration fee will receive a one-year subscription to Architecture Minnesota magazine for themselves or a person of their choosing. 3. VIDEO CONTENT AND RESTRICTIONS All submissions must be 30 to 90 seconds in length and must comply with the digital file formats set forth in these rules. Entrants are asked to download the Architecture Minnesota logo from this web page and incorporate it into the beginning or end of their video. Videos may use any combination of moving images, stills, drawings, graphics, voice-over, music, live action, animation, or subtitles, but each entrant is solely responsible for complying with all applicable laws in creating and submitting his/her video, including obtaining permission to use all of the materials contained in the video and from all persons who might otherwise claim any rights in the video for all purposes of this competition and the Contest Rules, and specifically including the grant of rights set forth below. Each entrant is also solely responsible for obtaining all applicable permits and permissions to record images, video, or sound on public or private property. No video submission will be considered if it contains any material (including language) that is unlawful, defamatory, threatening, obscene, racially offensive, or in any other way objectionable. Video content must not serve to promote, advertise, or market any product or service. All videos that are accepted will be hosted on Architecture Minnesota’s Vimeo channel and thus must also abide by Vimeo’s Community Guidelines. Architecture Minnesota reserves the right to reject any entry at Architecture Minnesota’s sole and absolute discretion. 4. FILE FORMAT REQUIREMENTS Because video submissions will be hosted on Architecture Minnesota’s Vimeo channel, the preferred format for all submissions is mp4. But entrants may also submit their videos in the avi, m4v, mpeg, mpg, and wmv digital file formats. Files must be less than 100 MB in size. For guidance on file preparation and compression, visit vimeo.com/help/compression. 5. HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR VIDEO In addition to completing the registration form and complying with all of the other terms and conditions of these Contest Rules, entrants must submit their digital video and a signed release, waiver, and grant of rights form so that they are received between 5 p.m. CST on October 18, 2013, and 5 p.m. CST on February 3, 2014. Entrants must submit their materials in one of three ways: •Digital transfer: Transfers from services such as WeTransfer and Hightail should be directed to hudson@aia-mn.org. Entrants choosing this mode of delivery must also email a scan of the signed release form to the same email address or fax the signed form to (612) 338-7981. •Mail: Entrants may mail a DVD containing their digital video and their signed release form to the address listed below. The DVD should be placed in a case. Architecture Minnesota 275 Market Street, Suite 54 Minneapolis, MN 55405 •In person: Entrants may deliver their DVD and signed release form in person to the address listed above during normal business hours. Architecture Minnesota will seek to confirm receipt of a submission by email within 24 hours of its receipt. All submissions become the property of Architecture Minnesota and its designees and agents. 6. PRIZE MONEY The judges will award a $2,000 Grand Prize and four $500 Honorable Mentions. Submissions will be judged on their creativity and their ability to engage viewers. All decisions of the judges are final. In addition to the judges’ decisions, the audience at the Videotect Awards event at the Walker Art Center will select the winner of the $1,000 Viewers’ Choice Award from a pool of finalists chosen by online voters between February 14 and February 21, 2014. The Videotect Awards are scheduled for March 13, 2014, at the Walker Art Center Cinema. All dates are subject to change. 7. ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION By submitting an entry, entrant and all participants agree to all of the terms and conditions of these rules and to the decisions of the Videotect judges, whose decisions shall be final and legally binding in all matters relating to the competition. Each entrant and participant waives the right to assert as a cost of winning any prize, any and all costs of verification and redemption or travel to redeem a prize and any liability that might arise from redeeming or seeking to redeem a prize. By participating in this competition, each entrant and participant releases Architecture Minnesota, AIA Minnesota, and their affiliates and promotional agencies, together with their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents, from and against any and all liabilities, claims, or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages, or losses to persons or property, including death and bodily injury, which may be sustained in connection with the participation in the competition or the receipt or use of the video. By entering this competition, each entrant represents and warrants that he/she has the right to submit the video for all purposes of this competition and hereby grants to Architecture Minnesota, AIA Minnesota, and their designees and agents the non-exclusive right to reproduce, distribute, transmit, display, publicly perform, and otherwise use the video for any and all purposes, including theatrical exhibitions, online transmissions and displays, and promotional purposes. Any disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this competition, or any prizes awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, exclusively by arbitration in Minneapolis, Minnesota, pursuant to the rules of the American Arbitration Association then in effect and applying Minnesota law and subject to any limitation of liability set forth in these Contest Rules. Any arbitration award shall be limited to participant’s actual out-of-pocket expenses incurred, if any, and in no event shall participant be entitled to any indirect, special, consequential, exemplary, punitive, or multiple damages or loss of business or profits, or recovery of attorneys’ fees. Architecture Minnesota and AIA Minnesota reserve the right to cancel and revoke this competition due to printing errors or other mistakes in their sole discretion.
